The Cathedral of St Nicholas is the seat of the Bishop of Newcastle as the diocese's "Mother Church". They exist throughout the diocese to serve the work of the Bishop and teaching and pastoral ministry. The Cathedral is features 14th Century, with a striking 15th Century Lantern Tower. The building focuses on great diocesan events and public services, as well as a place of peaceful serenity set in a lively city's company. Features include a fine alabaster reredos, hand-carved misericords, the 17th Century Hall and Maddison Memorials, and the Collingwood Monument dedicated to Admiral Lord Collingwood.
