Horesby Street School first opened its doors on August 18th, 1902.It was made up of 460 mixed seniors, 460 mixed juniors, and 402 mixed infants!The school was taken over by the military during WWI, and soldiers were billeted there.Some students were sent to Wawne Street and Middleton Street schools, while others were sent to the Church of the Transfiguration.The senior department was restructured in 1920 to become the Central Senior School for Girls.Many of Thoresby's students were evacuated during WWII.Those who remained were not expected to attend the morning after an air raid.Calling the register in the afternoon must have been a difficult task.Then comes the
