Basingwerk Abbey is a ruined abbey which l listed as a grade. The monastery, founded in the 12th century, belonged to the Cistercian Order. The abbey was founded by the 4th Earl of Cheste, Ranulf de Gernon. It knows the area's nature walks, educational activities, habitats, and bird watching. A complimentary guide/brochure is available from the visitor centre (open every day from 10 am to 4.30 pm from 1st April-3rd November). It gives free admission.
