Carlisle Castle is a historic castle with ancient halls, stairs and dungeons, offering panoramic views of the city and the Lake District hills and southern Scotland. Visitors can look at the mysterious stone carvings to have been made in the 15th century by bored corrections officers. You will take in Queen Mary's Tower where, under the watchful eye of Sir Francis Knolly, Mary, Queen of Scots was held captive from 1567. It explores the rooms of the medieval castle, reveals the exhibition's tumultuous past, and walks through some of the castle walls. Dogs on leads are welcome.
