Bolton Town Hall is a famous city Hall. The building has less than 150 years old and has been radically altered several times during its distinguished career. With its classical columns and imposing clock tower, it was an inspiration for many subsequent public buildings in Britain and throughout the Empire. Bolton designed his modest town hall on St George's Street. This building was the township's administrative centre and included the court, police station, and lockup as well. 200 architects were invited to compete for the design contract.
