ST TERESA'S NURSERY SCHOOL

description

St Teresa's Nursery School is a coeducational, Catholic-run nursery school.Other faith denominations' children and staff are welcome. The school will have 54 students enrolled in the 2019-20 school year. All of the students will be in their first year of elementary school.St. Teresa's Nursery School, affectionately known as "The Butterfly School," first opened its doors in 1994. It is a purpose-built nursery that has traditionally served the needs of pre-school children in the parish of St. Teresa's.Our mission is to provide excellent nursery education in a fair and caring environment.A child's first teachers are their parents and other adults. When a child goes to school, they bring a variety of experiences with them.We construct our lives around these experiences. This is best accomplished by parents, adults, and teachers collaborating at home and at school.St. Teresa's Nursery is a member of the West Belfast Area Learning Community, and we work hard to maintain connections with both our feeder childcare providers and local primary schools. Two schools have partnered with St. Teresa's Nursery. We work with parents, staff, and children at Shaftesbury Nursery in the Shankhill as part of the Shared Education project, sharing educational experiences and building relationships. We've also teamed up with a Danish school, Bornehuset Labyrinten, as part of an eTwinning project focused on ICT in Early Years. All of these collaborations allow the children to have richer and more meaningful learning experiences. At St. Teresa's, we place a strong emphasis on meeting each child's unique needs. We observe children's behavior patterns (schemas) and plan activities to maximize children's participation in their play, allowing them to 'be the best that they can be.'The staff is well-versed in meeting the language and communication needs of children.Since 2016, we've had 'Makaton Friendly' status, which was reissued in January 2018.We are members of the Northern Ireland Forest Schools Association (NIFSA) and are enthusiastic about outdoor learning. We have received the Eco School's Green Flag five times, as well as bronze, silver, and gold awards from the Woodland Trust's "Green Tree" awards; we have been a FairTrade Aware school since 2016 and support Trocaire, Action Cancer, and McMillan Cancer as our chosen charities; and we were recently recognized as Rights Committed - Bronze award by Rights Respecting Schools.
