Rex Guppy founded Club Kingswood in October 1967.The club began as a six-court squash club, inspired by Rex Guppy's love of the sport and desire to "spread the word." The grand opening event, which included a telegram from Prince Philip congratulating Rex Guppy on realizing his dream and wishing the club well, was a glamorous event attended by all county dignitaries.When Alister Guppy became president of the club in 1978, he decided that the club should appeal to more people than just squash players, so two courts were converted into a gym and an "Aerobics" studio.
